Last week was a down week. We had done tons of driving and exploring the week before, so it was much needed.
Sunday we decided to head to Grand Rapids, Michigan to surprise a friend. Every year he walks from Detroit to Grand Rapids to raise money for firefighters battling cancer. It just so happened that we were in Michigan this year, so we wanted to surprise him at the finish line.
But first, I wanted to make a stop to see a sweet family that moved from Texas to Grand Rapids a few years ago. I was their chiropractor in Texas and still follow them on social media to keep up with their family.
When we arrived, I found out that only the mother and daughter are still in Grand Rapids. The rest of the family moved to Oklahoma and is going to be living in an RV for a little while.
Did we inspire that? Hmmm…..
Daughter is a senior in high school, so they wanted to finish out schooling in Grand Rapids. Once the school year is finished, they’ll head to Oklahoma to be with the rest of the family.
It was great to catch up with them before heading over to the firehouse to surprise another friend we originally met in Texas but that lives in Michigan now.
There’s an app that tracks him as he’s walking, so we were able to see what time he was estimated to arrive. And once he started getting closer more and more people showed up at the station. We all lined the street waiting for him (and the others walking with him) to arrive.
It was so good to see them, and such a moving moment when they finished. You can find out more about his nonprofit at Neighbors United.
Monday I drove into Chicago to go see a couple of ladies from my homeopathy study group. One of them had the most beautiful backyard filled with all sorts of decor she made herself. There was even a gorgeous fish pond with a sitting area where I could’ve spent the entire afternoon. It was great to have lunch, spend the afternoon chatting with both of them, and finish with a good dinner before going back to the RV.
On Friday, we packed up and started our journey to Oklahoma. We ended up stopping for the night at a Cracker Barrel in Terre Haute, Indiana. The girls were super excited to see Bob Ross there!
On Saturday, we made our way to St. Louis, Missouri. We spent a couple of hours driving around downtown to check out the sights before heading to Springfield, MO.
We ended up finding a Boondockers Welcome host in Springfield on Saturday and decided to stay there for the night. I wish I would’ve taken some pictures. They had a beautiful backyard with a nice patio and pond. We stayed out there talking for quite a while after getting set up. If you’re a member of Boondockers Welcome, we highly recommend Chicken Bacon Ranch (find them on the Boondockers Welcome website or @theozarkschickenbaconranch on Instagram).
That’s about the extent of our fun last week. Stay tuned for all the exciting things coming up!
